While many people come to see the incredible 136-foot-tall Burgess Falls, visitors also get a special treat while walking the river trail with 3 additional waterfalls along the way. This moderate trail it great for a family outing in nature. There is an ADA access overlook for Little Falls near the parking area. There is also a playground for the little ones to run off their energy before you head home. Don't forget fido at home since BFSP is Dog friendly (on leash).
Burgess Falls officially became a state park in 1975! Before that though, Falling Water River was used to generate power for Cookeville TN from 1928-1944. Remnants of that history can still be seen throughout the trails while you hike throughout the park. While visiting the park you can also take time to enjoy the history board over by the playground which has some amazing historical pictures and information about days long gone but not forgotten. There are also a few history boards along the trail.

While visiting Burgess Falls State Park, you may notice some things have changed! The old Ranger station was leveled to make way for a brand-new Visitor Center! The project is expected to be completed by 2026. Be sure to have patience while the area is under construction. The park will still be open but there will be limited parking, so be sure to check the Burgess Falls State Park Facebook Page before visiting on busy summer days as the parking may be at capacity. Please only park in designated areas and visit later in the day or another day if the park is full.
Window Cliffs was designated a State Natural Area in 2014 and while it does not connect to Burgess Falls State Park, it is a part of the park. The Friends Group helps with special funding and maintenance here as well as Burgess Falls State Park. Window Cliffs is a day use area. This trail is an out and back hike, considered strenuous and comes in around 5.5 miles total hike. There are also 9 river crossings along the way, so if you do the full trail, you will cross it 18 times before you make it back to your vehicle! If you do complete the whole trail, you will be rewarded with several waterfalls, beautiful flowers (seasonal) and an incredible view atop Window Cliffs! Dogs are not allowed at this Natural Area, Sorry Fido! *Always check the Burgess Falls State Park Facebook page to ensure it is open. It will be closed when high water is present to ensure everyone's safety. *
